Why people come to Narkanda
The valley starts where the balcony ends.
Narkanda sits at about 2,700 metres on the old Hindustan–Tibet road, an hour past Kufri and well past the crowds. The ridge falls away in front of the property into deodar and apple orchard, and on a clear morning the snow line runs the whole width of the horizon.
It is quiet in a way Shimla stopped being a long time ago. Most guests tell us they came for one night on the way somewhere and stayed two.
The best rooms in Narkanda aren't the biggest ones. They're the ones facing out.

Narkanda is on NH-5 between Shimla and Kinnaur, which makes it an unusually good base — the sights are close, and the road out towards Sangla and Chitkul starts here.

Narkanda is a different place four times a year.
The clear months
Monsoon has washed the haze out and the snow line is visible almost every morning. Apple harvest runs through September in the orchards below. The best photographs of the year are taken now.
Snow
Narkanda is one of the few places within a day of Delhi that reliably gets it. The ski slope opens when conditions allow. Check with us on road conditions before you drive.
Blossom
The orchards flower and the whole valley turns. Cold mornings, warm afternoons. The quietest weeks we have.
Escape
Our busiest stretch, for the obvious reason — it's roughly twenty degrees cooler here than in the plains. Book further ahead than you think you need to.

Ours face out towards the ridge, but not every room has the same outlook and we're not going to pretend otherwise. Tell us your dates and we'll show you exactly what each of the available rooms looks at, so you can pick.
How far is Hilltop Resort from Hatu Peak?
About 8 km, roughly half an hour up. The last stretch is a narrow hill road and the temple at the top is worth the drive. We can arrange a car, and we'll tell you honestly whether it's drivable on the day.
Is Narkanda worth it in September and October?
It's arguably the best window of the year. The monsoon clears through September, the air is at its sharpest, and the Himalayan range is visible on most mornings — which it isn't in summer. Apple harvest is on in the orchards below. It's also far less crowded than the May–June rush, which for most people is the point.
How do I get to Narkanda from Delhi or Chandigarh?
By road, it's about 420 km from Delhi (10–11 hours) and 180 km from Chandigarh (5–6 hours), all on NH-5 via Shimla. Most guests drive, or take the train to Kalka and the Kalka–Shimla toy train up, then a two-hour car from Shimla. The nearest airport is Shimla (Jubbarhatti), 85 km away. We can arrange the car from Shimla or Chandigarh with your stay.
Do you take group and family bookings?
Regularly. There are 23 rooms, so functions, family gatherings and corporate offsites out of Chandigarh and Delhi all work here. Message us the headcount and dates and we'll come back with a plan rather than a rate card.
Does it snow, and can I drive up when it does?
Narkanda gets dependable snow between late December and February — it's one of the closest reliable snow points to Delhi. Whether you can drive up on a given day depends entirely on that day. Message us before you leave and we'll tell you what the road is doing.
How quickly will someone reply?
